It’s Bacterial Throat Infection Afterall….
@ 15 months 2 weeks
So glad we brought Ryan to the paed yesterday. It turns out his fever has no connection with his flu vaccine. He’s actually down with a bacterial throat infection. Was prescribed Augmentin (antibiotics) and suppositories for fever and pain.
Saturday, 28 Jul
11.00pm – Thermoscan reading showed 38.8C again. Inserted suppository. Ryan rolled and whined all night.. Neither hubs nor me had any good sleep.
Sunday, 29 Jul
3.00am – Wailed for no apparent reason. Ryan’s reading remained consistentlyt at 38.5C. Inserted another suppository.
9.00am – Ryan woke up and started behaving oddly. He was cranky and cannot let mommy out of sight.
11.00am – Brought Ryan to the paed. Diagnosed throat infection and was prescribed medication.
1.00pm – Force fed Augmentin (4ml). Poor baby wailed his lungs out.
2.45pm – Woke up after 1 hour nap.
4.30pm – We laid on bed watching Baby Bright after sponging Ryan. I felt his hands and feet were very cold and poor boy shivered. I quickly turned off the aircon and hugged him for warmth.
5.00pm – Ryan’s temp peaked at 39.8C. I almost went berserk. Quickly inserted the Venon suppository. Quickly sponged Ryan with wet towel.
6.30pm – The medicine kicked in. He was able to play a bit.
9.00pm – Tucked Ryan in after another round of sponging and suppository.
11.30pm – Nightmare began. Ryan wailed for no reason. After a while of soothing he dozes off.
12.30am – Wailed again. This time no soothing could bring him back to sleep. He decided he wants to be awake.
1.30am – Still awake
2.30am – Still awake
3.30am – Dozed off
4.30am – Wailed again
5.30am – Wailed again
7.15am – Woke up
We literally did not get any sleep last night but thankfully Ryan’s temp remained below 38C. That is the most important. I really don’t mind not sleeping at all. I just want to see Ryan back to his normal self.
Today, 30 Jul
Sent Ryan to nanny this morning. When I told nanny of Ryan’s ordeal, she said this to me:
Nanny: Poor boy. ‘Keh Lian’. He got infected by ‘fei mui’. Fei mui (chubby baby girl) is the other baby cared by nanny.
Me: (Kek sei. Arrgghh… !!!!)

Ryan running a fever
@ 15 months 1 week 4 days
The last time Ryan fell sick was in April, that was like 3 months ago a week after his MMR vaccine. In between I dare vouch he has been 100% fit (at least much healthier than Daddy for sure). I thank his clean bill of health to his healthy daily intake of yogurt and fish oil. This time round his fever came right after his anti-flu vaccine. The paed did mention the vaccine may/may not cause fever. Arrgghh… don’t I just love and hate all these vaccines!
I know fever is not always an enemy, rather a good sign indicating the body’s immune to fight the invaders. But call me kiasu, name me kiasi. It breaks my heart seeing the lil one sick. When Ryan’s temp peaked at 38.8C, I just had to administer the suppository (my first time
). When I was ‘doing’ it, hubs asked “B ar.. you know how to do it?“. I kept silent. “Have you done it before or not?” I uttered no words. Arggh.. there I was, kancheong and was trying hard to focus, my hubs was at my side ‘ngam ngam cham cham’ asking me 1001 questions. I really don’t know what else hubs asked. In a blink of an eye, I shoved the suppository in. Phew~ So, if my hubby is reading this post now, here goes my answer “I think so” and “No“. I do not want to tell you earlier knowing you’ll sure ‘Ngi Ngi Ngor Ngor’ questioning if I was doing it right.
Ryan was his normal self all day – still into strenuous activities though he did throw occassional tantrums at Ikea this afternoon, an evident rosy cheeks (quite cute tho), and being extremely clingy to mommy (yay! oopss). His temp has subsided after the supp. Have to continue to monitor him tonight. If it’s really the effect of vaccine, the fever should not last more than 48 hours (according to the ‘What to Expect’ bible la..).
Get well soon baby……..

Anti Flu Vaccine
@15 months, 1 week, 2 days
We decided to opt for the anti flu vaccine so brought Ryan to the paed last night. Unlike last month Ryan behaved tremendously well this time. He longer make faces, neither was he afraid when the stethoscope landed on his tummy. He even exchanged acknowledgement with the paed by nodding his head when the latter asked “how are you Ryan”. So cute….
We laid him on the couch and when the needdle was injected, he cracked a short ‘Aaahhhh’ but was easily pacified. Phew~~~
Overall, Ryan’s weight still maintained at the 75 percentile but dropped a little from last month’s. He’s at 10.6kg, 83cm length, 48cm head circumference. Poor baby.

Tag: Vain Pot
| You Are 56% Vain |
![]() You’re a little vain, but more than anything you have a healthy amount of confidence. Thinking the world of yourself is great. Just don’t think less of those who aren’t as pretty as you! |
This tag came from my fav flat mate. She wants to know if I’m a vain pot. Hmm.. so do I consider myself vain? Err.. I’m really not sure. Frankly I don’t really have a strict beauty regime. Most of the time I only uses cleanser and moisturiser; and frankly the last time I did a mask was back in March and I have 5 more times of facial treament programme waiting to be utilised. Thank goodness they don’t impose deadline. Bad huh… no wonder I’m getting so ‘chan’ lately.

15 Months Milestones
~backdate~
@ 15 months
Ryan turned 15th months today. As he grows I find it more difficult to track his milestones. Nonetheless, I will try to recap what I could, based on my ever reliable memory. Ahem..
Weight: Not sure, have not checked recently.. but feels heavy
Height: Update later
Teeth: 16 at least
Emotions and Character
Ryan is a strong will boy and will really go all out to get the things he wants. He can scream, wriggle, show you that 10 cent look, give you a fake cry, drag, pull and roll, do all things imaginable to get attention. The real cheeky boy also knows who to bully. When he is with Linda, he knows his wishes are Linda’s command. He will command Linda to go here go there, play here play there.
Lately Ryan has been very vocal. He learnt a new trick recently when he found out he could get a lot of attention by making sound effect. Example: When he sees an airplane, he’ll go Wah, Woo, OOOooo, EEeeh.. Wah Wah, Woo woo, on and on and on. When he sees a funny scene on cartoon, he’ll also go Wah, Woo, OOOooo, EEeeh.. Wah Wah, Woo woo… (sounded like katak bawah tempurung huh) as if he was so amazed, surprised with what he just saw when actual fact he would have easily seen it like umpteen times.
Ryan also picked up the salute sign from the guard. Now whenever we drive thru the guard house in the morning, he’ll raise his hand and exchange salute with the guard. He even does the same when he sees policeman on TV.
We have taught Ryan to give a hug and goodnight and recently he got the hang of it.
When he wants to be carried, he’ll open his arms wide and slant his body forward.
Language and Speech
I am not sure if I could remember all but some of the new words he picked up beside the ones from last month and the recently discovered “Weh Yo, Yo”
Weh Yo Liow (Mei Yo Liow)
Cose (Close)
Bot (Robot)
Pah
Mah
Kak (refers to Linda)
Dexterity
Pretty much like a normal toddler. He’s also improving in terms of his eye-leg coordination. Example: One of his fav past time lately is playing football. He acts exactly like a pro, he will put the ball in front of him, aim the ball by bending his knees a bit, then kick, run, dribble and kick, run again.
Diet
Not many changes from last month except for we started feeding Ryan fish oil and fresh juice (his all time fav is still apple juices).
Ryan loves his yogurt. He can finish the whole cup all by himself at one go. When it’s finished, he would only believe if we show him an empty cup, else he’ll be asking ‘mum-mum’, ‘mum-mum’…..
Routine
Hmm.. pretty much still the same. However so lately Ryan has a habit of waking up around 6.30am (the time Daddy normally wakes up) and will start asking for ‘mum-mum’. The blessing is he will go back to ZZzz-land after his milk so mommy could catch the extra much needed sleep.
Others
Etc Etc nanny shared with me this morning
- One time, Ryan picked up meimei’s (the other baby nanny is babysitting) hanky and start wiping the chair (hmmm.. wait until mommy get him to do housework
)
- Ryan will tidy up and put back the toys to its exact original spot after play (wonder how come he’s so messy at home)
- Ryan is very observant compared to the many babies she babysat before
- Ryan is very strong willed. There’s no way she could coax him to do things he refused

Singapore Trip
@ 14 months 4 weeks 1 day
Hubs and I went to Singapore on Friday. It was just an overnight trip and we did not bring Ryan along also knowing we simply do not have the luxury to sneak back to hotel during Ryan’s nap times. Yes, no joke. Busy busy day! So, as much as we know we gonna miss him, we made the decision to leave him under to good care of his beloved grandparents.
Hmm.. some of you have known, many have not, hubs and I (and our precious Ryan of course), are moving to Singapore so our trip down to Singapore this round was a jam packed one, itinerary all lined up from 10am to 4pm. Jialat leh. As a result we did not really *benefited* much from the great Singapore sale. We stayed at Raffles Plaza Hotel so the only glimpse we literally had of the sale was from Raffles City and a quick stroll at Takashimaya.
During our short 2D/1N stay, we called home many times to find out about Ryan, if he’s okay, has he eaten, did he nap, etc etc. When we spoke to MIL on Saturday morning she told us Ryan woke up 2 times the night before, 3am and 6am. So pitiful. Bet both MIL and Ryan did not have a good sleep.
We got home around 11.30pm last night. Ryan was already asleep but was quickly aroused when he heard the commotion. I was just next to him and when he saw me, he gave me the sweetest smile ever. So, he missed me. Yay! But but, being the ever Daddy’s boy, that’s it when he saw hubs. He gave Daddy the double sweetest smile, raised up from bed, clinged on to Daddy like a koala bear. Then guess what. The two laid on bed, side by side, just like two lovely birds. Yay! He missed Daddy doubly more!!! No doubt of that. *Adoi~~~ slap head*.

Tag: I am a certified blogivitis
I was tagged by this mommy and this mommy some time back. It took me a while to complete this tag not because I don’t agree I am a blogivitis; somehow it only occurred to me I am truly a certified one last week. So here goes…
What happened was I sprained my neck badly last week. I got two jabs from two different doctors and was given a total of 3 days MC separately. The pain was so awful that I shed tears in the clinic when the doc massaged my neck in hope to loosen up the muscles. I swear I didn’t even cry when I had my contractions prior labour. Then guess what… the doc said to me “You worked too hard. Don’t use the computer so much. I’ll give you a few days off and please take a good rest at home”. Muahahahaha….. I told hubs. He chuckled and gave me that ‘yeah yeah padan muka’ (sure or not) look and coveniently blamed it on my obsessive interest on blogging. You know what I mean………..
Anyways, after the jab I felt a slight relief from pain but the drowsiness was the one killing me instead. I took the day off and lay on bed most of the time; not resting but BLOGGING!!! Sei mo!!! I did some office work la… (ahem.. in case my company’s security intelligence found my blog) , gone through some office emails etc but hor while in the midst of all that I was actually multi-tasking doing several things at one time – I remember vividly I was on MSN with this sifu as I needed help on domain setup, while going through the comments on my post, while logging on to PPP in hope of some available opps, while this while that… I only stopped when the drowsiness took over my brain and my eyelids ‘merajuk’ they can’t ‘tahan’ liow (need to catch some sleep) before Ryan comes home from nanny’s.
So, you think I am a certified blogivitis? Heehee…… hopefully I don’t become a blogivitis hantu (zombie) burning too much midnight oil….
** Hmm.. I spare everyone, not passing the tag baton cos I gather those who are reading this are all truly certified blogivities like me la…

Weh Yo…. Yo…..?
@ 14 months 3 weeks 2 days
Ryan’s language development has certainly improved markedly. He is able to follow simple command and has no problem pointing to picture of things when we name it (balls, butterfly, cow, dog, cat, pig, telephone, baby, etc….). He is also becoming more vocal in expressing his emotions, needs and wants. Example, when he play with his car, he’ll make the sound effect – Voom… Ooohh.. voom… (so cute)
Anyways, all the while, much emphasis was put on Ryan’s development of the English language. Although Ryan is exposed to 6 languages on a daily basis (English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, Malay), admittedly his ability to comprehend other languages besides the mother tongue language (English) was conveniently forgotten. *slap mommy’s head*
I’ve noted down Ryan’s ability to vocalize words in English in all his monthly milestones. Somehow it never occurred to me that like most babies, Ryan is adept with the ability to understand multiple languages at one time. (Unlike mommy, spent a few semesters just to learn some basic Japanese language which today I cant even pass reciting 1- 10. Blehh). It only took a turn when we discovered Ryan was actually babbling words in Mandarin when we were in Langkawi. Two notable words Ryan learnt were “Weh Yo” (Mei Yo – Do Not Have/No) and “Yo” (Have), those are his favourite words these days, actually said not out of fluke shot but meaning it. That aside, he’ll even say it with the famous ‘don’t have’ sign language (both palms twisting inwards outwards) as well. So cute la.. Hmm.. Though I am not sure if I will still find all these funny few years down the road but for now, I simply love the way Ryan babble those words with the funny gestures of his. Till the extent, I will make up unsound question so to hear the famous reply; eg. in the bedroom, I’ll ask ‘Ryan, can you see the star?‘. We all know the obvious answer but poor innocent Ryan will be looking up the roof and say “Weh Yo” coupled with the no-no handshake….
I usually have a heart to heart talk with (to) Ryan on our way to nanny’s in the morning asking him how was his sleep, any dreams, hungry etc. Not sure if he understands his mommy’s babbling early in the morning but lately he has been more responsive. Pic below taken this morning of Ryan bleh-blehing with both hands moving up and down.. (hmm.. from his face expression, I think he wants to send his mommy a message that he’s bored with his mommy’s ‘ngam ngam cham cham’ (boring) conversation in the morning). Heehee….
