Little Drummer in the Making

@ 1 year 2 months 1 week 5 days

Ryan develops this special interest in balloons, basket balls, footballs, guli, anything round in fact. He just loves playing with them. Imagine the very first word he would say the moment he wake up will be – “ball”; the second word also “ball” and he’ll go ball ball ball….. until we give him the balloons/balls in his cot.

When it comes to malling, the word that never leaves his mouth is – “ball.. ball.. ball..ball.. balllllllll” and he’ll point to us the balloons, balls, and whatever whatever round shape figures he spotted in the mall. Thank goodness nowadays he longer gets cranky when his wishes/desires for one were not met. Pretty manageable now. Probably knowing he has tons of them at home.

Frankly I must salute my son. His eyes can be really sharp that he could spot the most hidden ball or balloon which we adult would have easily missed. I must say eversince I became a mom, I’ve changed so much just for the sake of keeping Ryan happy. Example, I never thought this would happen to me before but nowadays if I see another baby holding on to a balloon, I’ll actually peer my eyes attempting to spot logo printed on the balloon in hope to figure out who actually gives them out (for free) so I’ll know where to source in case my son fuss for it. *slap head*

When I say Ryan really loves his balloon.. I meant it. Check out what stunt he’ll perform with his two balloons. A clip of a little drummer in the making.

Ryan’s First Passport Picture

@ 1 year 2 months 1 week 3 days

We brought Ryan to KLCC last Sat to have his passport pic taken. Check out the serious look on the usual little cheeky boy of mine. Daddy was carrying him while mummy became the clown behind the camera man trying to get the little one to stay focussed. Very obvious from the pic, Ryan did not find the mummy funny at all. :P

Ryan behaved really well throughout the process. Somehow we tend to worry too much that he will be cranky, will not cooperate, will not do this, will not do that.. but he always surprises us with just the total opposite. It’s exactly what happened when we brought him for his haircut last time. So cooperative, so behaved. Well done baby.

Ryan’s Tender Loving Side

@ 1 year 2 months 1 week 1 day

Being the only toddler at home, it’s hard for me to gauge how well Ryan behaves when another little one is around. So, the only source of info as such would be from nanny who also baby sits her niece who is 6 months old. Last week nanny shared with me Ryan’s tender loving side stories. According to nanny, she never taught Ryan these but somehow Ryan knew what to do at times as such. He must had picked it up unconsciously from nanny. What happened was last week, nanny spotted Ryan shoving the pacifier into the baby’s mouth whenever she cries. If the crying does not stop, Ryan would then pat pat the baby girl’s chest softly, and then knock his head towards the girl’s. Well, in case you’re wondering why knocking the head, head2head knocking is actually Ryan’s way of showing his love since young. Whenever we say the word sayang example, ‘sayang’ mummy, ‘sayang’ daddy, Ryan would knock his head towards ours. Nanny said she spotted Ryan doing that on several occassions so it’s not a fluke shot afterall. When I learnt that, I feel so proud of my little baby. So sweet; not quite the little monster at all……….. Maybe he’s really for a little DiDi/MeiMei? Blehhh….

Ryan’s Immunisation Schedule

I posted on Ryan’s Hep A vaccine earlier. Some mommies asked me how come Hep. A is not listed on their schedule. Hope it serves a good reference for all….

Tag: FTWM vs SAHM

This timely tag came in from her who was also at the cul-de-sac of deciding what’s best for her next. I wish her all the best in either option she chooses ya.

Anyways, back to me.. some of you may know, many don’t on why I said this tag came timely. Well, let’s not dwell and let me get on with my tag homework ya. If things work out fine, I’ll announce it in a month’s time. *nyek nyek nyek* *wink*

If I’m given a free hand to choose between FTWM (Full Time Working Mom) and SAHM (Stay at Home Mom), I’ll likely opt to become a FTWM because:

1) I like the feeling of being able to spend what I earn without being questioned. Of course I’ll be happier if hubs willingly pay for all the expenses but which hubs wont nag if the wife spends too much?
2) I get meme time. I know I know. That’s a super duper selfish reason but strangely I always get this refreshed feeling when I see Ryan every day when I come home from work. I treasure him more, I’m more attentive, and definitely have more patience especially when he shows mummy his ever classic ANTICS!
3) I’m afraid I’ll be a WONG MIN POR and out of reach with the society if I don’t work. I am a lazy person. I can sleep all day, win the couch potato award, wear the same pj from day to night if I’m not going anywhere. So imagine 24×7 at home……. I wont be surprise if the postman conveniently mistaken me as the maid of the house. :P

Disclaimer:
I know there are many beautiful attractive SAHMs out there who are able to earn an attractive pay check without having to leave their home or the kids behind. So, the lame excuses I gave above were entirely my own interpretation of my feelings of one role vs. another. Any relation to anyone is strictly coincidence ya…. :D

Tag Baton:
1) My Life Zone – hope to know u better
2) Jacelyn – heehee.. u tagged me, i tag u.. dont angry ya
3) EstherL – u very quiet these days…

~~~Instructions~~~
Here’s how it works:
1. So easy peasy, if you were given a choice, would you be a SAHM or FTWM? Just provide 3 darn good reasons.
2. Include your post link to the list below and Finally,
3. Tag another three mommies
List:
1. Immomsdaughter prefers to be a SAHM
2. Etcetera~Mummy prefers to be a FTWM
Misbehaved Kiddo
@ 1 year 2 months 2 days
I tried not to split hair when Ryan throws a tantrum. Afterall, he’s still a baby and discipline is still new a new word in his dictionary but I really could not contain my frustration when he showed his antics at the restaurants two nights in a row. Arrgghh… how to not get more white hair over such meltdown???
Saturday
Went to Mdm Kwan, MV for dinner.
**He rejected the high chair – Fine
**He was busy vocalling EH, EH, EH, Mm, Mm, Mm loudly in the restaurant – Fine
**He kept saying mum-mum, mum-mum – Fine
**Took a few spoons and rejected the remaining cereals I prepared – Fine
**Kept insisting he wants my nasi lemak – Fine
**Fed him nasi lemak, spat everything out and whined – Fine
**Screamed, threw a tantrum, arching his back, wriggled left right, insisting to come down and wander around – NOT FINE!!!!. How to let him go alone. Arrghhh…
It doesn’t helped when the rest of the restaurant patrons were exchanging gestures on the misbehaved toddler on mine. So so so…. embarassing. Sob..
Sunday
Went for Father’s Day Celebration at Pik Wah Restaurant
**Wanted to play with chopsticks – Fine
**Almost poked mummy with chopsticks – Fine
**Played drum with chopsticks – Boiling mad but still FINE
**Insisted the balloon (yeah.. many decorated balloons hanging on the side panel) – Fine. Got one from the captain (white color)
**Rejected the food I prepared again – Fine
**Refused to be carried by Linda and kept pointing at mummy – Pitiful so still fine
**Insisted he wants a pink balloon and not the white one – NOT FINE…too demanding liow!!! Last straw and really tested my patience.
When we got home I was still frustrated. So I pinned the little fella down on bed. He was wriggling badly for freedom of course but I remained firm and tried to reason with him of what he did at the restaurant earlier. I am not sure if he understands what the mummy was babbling but he stared straight into my eyes during the whole episode and actually laid still throughout the few mins. I hope he gets my message loud and clear this time. After I released him, I prop him up, asked him to open up his hand and gave him three slaps on his palm (not painful la.. ) and told him this time mummy punished him lightly for first time offender (blekkk) but next time if it happens again, mummy will piak piak. He ran away……………. *slap head*
14 Months Milestones
@ 14 Months
Brought Ryan for Hep. A vaccine this morning. He behaved very well today. He showed signs of uneasiness when we first walked into paed’s office but soon relaxed himself when Daddy pampered him with the toys around. Good job Ryan!
Weight: 10.5kg, Height: 82cm, HC: 48cm
Total No of Teeth: 16 (started using toothbrush; no toothpaste)
Emotions and Character
Ryan is very emotional at times. He would cry at the slightest voice we raised. Well, fortunately the good thing is he is also easily pacified. If he cries because we refused to give in to his request, we would distract him with another subject (toy, direction, food, etc etc) and his tears would soon turn into a smile in no time. Phew..
He is also very cheeky. When we demand something which he is holding (toy, food etc) he would pretend by extending his hand to you. Before you could grab it from his hold, he would retract his hand and give you that cheeky smile of his.
He has very strong will of mind. Often, he would go EH-EH-EHHHHHH…… for our attention and smartly point to the toy/direction expecting us to give in to his request. At times, we would pretend to just ignore him, assuming he would give up and stop. We were wrong. Our reluctance to move would only put ourselves into a situation whereby we’ll be greeted with more loud and long winded scream. Very very stubborn baby (like Daddy). Blehh..
He’s also very good at recognising faces now. When he sees the picture, he’ll point correctly to the person we asked, that includes his own picture.
Language and Speech
Ryan’s vocab has improved and he is also able to combine his words with gestures made. Some words he would say when he sees the subject:
Papa: He’ll call out Papa when he sees Daddy but when you asked him who’s Papa, he’ll point indiscriminately
Dah Dee: (Daddy) Heard once today
Kah: (Car)
Mum-mum: (Food)
Mah Mah: Mummy / MahMah
Wow: (Dog)
Fooh: (Fish)
Ball: (Ball)
Dexterity
Able to walk steadily and speedily (I would consider that run at babies’ speed)
Able to stand and balance on one feet (saw he did that many times)
Able to walk and kick his balloons at the same time (hmm.. potential footballer?)
Able to walk and drink at the same time
Other gestures when being prompted: Oi-Oi (sleep), Goodbye kiss, Bye Bye, Come (palm up while four fingers wave inwards), No-No (shake head)
No problem switching on and off the switches to the house lights
Able drink from straw, sippy cup
Able to feed himself raisin size food, biscuits (biscuits: likes to take big bite!)
Likes to empty his toys box, sit inside, come out and put back all the toys in. Then he’ll repeat the whole process again.
Able to walk down steps about 10cm in height (going into bathroom)
I still do not allow Ryan to go near the stairs. He’s too impatient and I’m worried sick for his safety. He doesn’t know how to go down the stairs the correct way (likes to go one foot on one step at one time) despite how many times I have taught him to take it slow – ie settle two feet on one step before moving to the next step. If that’s not bad enough, he likes to go down the stairs at lightning speed. Imagine a mummy holding on to both his arms, there goes both his feet kicking and body straightened assuming that would help him get down faster and poor mummy struggling to keep up with his speed.
Diet
3 solid a day
6-7oz milk in between
Snacks in between (Yogurt, Biscuits, Raisins)
Apple Pureed for dessert in the evening
Ryan eats most of the food we prepared for him. So far these were the food he rejected in the past:
Mac & Cheese
Spicy food (nasi lemak, maggie curry)
Si Mat Lai Cha (tea)
Nestum Oats for breakfast
MEDICINE
Bo Ying Compound (for bb with nighmares)
Routine
Daddy gets home earlier this month since Project M is way over. He gets to spend more play time with Ryan before I tuck Ryan in around 10pm. I have also indicated to nanny that Ryan should not napped pass 5pm so to not disrupt his sleep time at night. So far so good.
Ryan is an angel when it comes to sleep time. I do not face too much of a problem tucking him to bed. The monster in him only unveiled middle of the night when he would whine and wail few times a night without actually waking up (ie eyes shut all the time). I’m not sure if it has anything to do with teething, nightmare, hunger etc… whatever it is, I hope they’ll come to an end soon.
Ryan still naps twice a day, each abour 1.5 – 2.5 hrs max (once 11am and once 4pm).
Others
I wear a house sandals at home which I only take off if I’m in the room. Ryan knows it when I want to go out of room, he’ll EH- EH-EH and point to my shoes (signalling mummy must wear shoes first)
When the phone rings at night, he knows it’s time to go down the stairs and wait for Daddy (Daddy calls home every night b4 he reaches home)
He knows when I say “oi-oi, what must you do?”, he’ll point to the switch and turn off the lights
He’s a shy-by (shy baby) when meet with strangers.. but at home he’ll be like a tiger and a king of the house
Likes to pull us up/along and direct us to the destination he has in mind
Happy 14 Months
