5 Reasons Why I Blog MeMe

Got a CNY pressie from Sasha. Yeah.. got another tag from her. Hmm.. this is a simple tag question yet tough to answer. Been cracking my head since yesterday to come up with 5 reasons… Actually there’s only one reason why I blogged. It’s all because of Ryan, Ryan, Ryan, Ryan and Ryan. So, these 5 reasons below are dedicated to my little monster in hope he would learn to appreciate when he is able to read his mummy’s long winded blog one day..

1) My memory capacity is deteriorating. What to do.. age catching up ma. So I hope maintaining this blog will enable the storage of all the memorable moments, memories (sweet and sour) on raising my little monster. I hope blogger has a BCP on their servers….

2) I hope when Ryan reads the blog about himself one day, he would be able to feel the love we have for him.. you know la.. sometimes it’s very difficult to express our love physically esp when the kids grow. Cannot be all day muaks muaks him, say I love you every single minute. So hopefully, with this he could read and feel the unconditional love that’s surrounding him.

3) Also hope Ryan would learn to appreciate his loved ones (esp mummy.. heehee…)..after knowing how little sleep we get, how many times we woke up a night for his nite nite snackss, how hyper he has been, how he broke mummy’s heart when he crawled to nanny etc etc lor..

4) We hope Ryan would know how much happiness and joy he is bringing into our lives, how many surprises we have had, etc etc.. Inevitably there are a lot of day to day changes and adjustment to life eversince Ryan’s arrival, they are all happy changes and there is no single moment of regrets

5) Aiyoh.. last reason.. erm erm.. really crack head already. Okay la.. final reason is a bit off track but nevermind la.. just wack… By blogging I hope all our family and friends can share, can watch, can be apart of Ryan’s day to day growth. Together we witness Ryan’s growth and development from baby to a handsome man one day….

Voila~~~~~ finally. Hmm..I think I’ll spare everyone this round. No tag from me :P

Little Ryan Caught in the Act

@ 10 months 1 week 3 days

Hubs left for Hong Kong yesterday afternoon. Will only be back on Wednesday. Managed to chat with him briefly last night before I had to end the call abruptly when the fireworks started pin-pin-pang-pang in our neigbourhood. Arrgh.. I was so afraid the loud noise’s gonna wake my sleepy baby who has just slept after 5 waking hours. Luckily he didn’t. Mummy was literally covering his ear on one hand and patting his butt butt on the other. Phew~~ Anyways my baby missed the prayer ceremony this year. (Yeah hubs family is Hokkien). Next year instead of sleeping upstairs, I guess our little kulingchingkwai will be running around messing with every single thing he set his eyes on…

This pic was taken by Elaine on the day we visited Malaika’s Mummy. Ryan was happily ransacking Malaika Mummy’s CDs rack when the pic was snapped. It was funny to see his hand waving as such. I wonder what was on his mind then…

Nanny on Leave

@ 10 months 1 week 3 days

I received a call from auntie yesterday. Hearing the tone of her voice I knew there must be something fishy already. She bla bla bla a few sentence but the only words that caught my attention was “I need to apply leave from 5th – 9th March”. I almost dropped the phone when I heard that. That’s ONE WHOLE WEEK leh!!! Is this for real or not? She bla bla bla that her daughter gave her a surprise la, paid for the trip la.. bla bla bla. Honestly I didn’t quite get what excuses she gave. All I was thinking of was how on earth I am gonna tell my boss I need a week’s off? I just took 3 days off this week. She really caught me off guarded. Arrgh.. Sei lorrrrrrrrrrr……………

Update: Managed to find a solution. MIL has been kind enough to help out. So, she’ll take the morning half and me the afternoon shift lor….. Daddy?? Daddy can’t take leave (as expected.. too busy with Project M).

Chinese New Year Day 7

@ 10 months 1 week 2 days

Ryan’s sleeping schedule was off a bit today. Instead of the usual 1.5 hours morning nap, he woke up just after half hour into Zzzz-land. On the way to my boss’ open house, I got really worried about his mood knowing he’ll kick up a fuss when he’s sleepy. Then I start my silly calculation on how many hours he can’ survive’ without sleep and what not… However, unexpectedly Ryan fell asleep during the ride. Phew~~. I worried too much.

On our way back Ryan had his usual charge of milk. Suddenly he puked without any earlier warning or indication he was full, not well whatsoever. I got really really worried. The last time Ryan puked was when he was down with stomach flu. Thank goodness Ryan showed no symptoms of being ill what not. Again I worried too much. He is as hyper and active as usual. Phew~ Phew~ again.
According to the chinese beliefs the 7th day of CNY is considered the birth of human beings (aka everyone’s birthday) so we went out and had dinner at Pek Wah restaurant. The crowd was crazy. So many tables, so many people. I almost thought I’ve just walked into a wedding dinner. The place was havoc, everybody was cheering, talking, laughing… and there was even a karaoke session. Unbelievable..
Ryan was not amused by such a heavy large crowd. It was so difficult to control him. He refused the baby chair, he will straighten his back wanted to come on ground if you ever attempted to stand still at a spot while carrying him, nothing seemed to please him tonight (in fact lately…) Despite bringing Linda with us, I got no peace of dinner.
YehYeh, MaMa entertaining the ever hyper Ryan

When we got home, Ryan was all smelly and sweaty. So I made water and sponged him straight away. Ryan doesn’t like to have anything on his head. Below is a typical scene when we failed to remove the shirt from his head fast enough.

Ryan’s wailing is always short termed. His wailing soon turned into hysterical laughter. A pic of Daddy entertaining Ryan here. Tomorrow same time Daddy will be on his way to HK (biz trip konon-nya). Hopefully he will remember his wife and son here in KL ….(souvenirs, souvenirs)*grin*

My cute half naked baby just before sponging *pst.. pst.. look like little buddha hor* Heehee..

Mmmm… my handsome and yummy-licious baby after sponging

At night hubs god bro came to pai nin (visiting). So again I have Ryan all by myself, which is good but sometimes it is quite tiring especially when Ryan kicks up a fuss and I have no extra pair of eyes or hands to help out. Lately I donno if it was my bad parenting, Ryan has been giving a lot of challenge to his mummy when it comes to bed time. He will be Zzz-ing off one min, next he’ll be twisting, turning and rolled over to the magic gap, all alert with his eyes wide open. I know he is tired as he is constantly rubbing his eyes yet he just can’t settled himself down. Poor baby. And for the last few days it happened a few nights (erm morning) whereby Ryan would wake up ard 5am and start his usual twisting, tossing, playing at the magic gap, climbing up the bed board etc etc… It’ll be an hour at least before he is tired enough to go back to sleep. If this pattern continues after the CNY break, mummy will faint. :P

Chinese New Year Visit

@ 10 month 1 week

Yesterday we paid a visit to Malaika’s Mummy. Ryan’s “kai ma” Elaine came and picked me and baby Ryan up. Thanks Elaine!!

It was such a joyous occassion. The last time they saw Ryan was when Ryan was barely 4 months I think. Chong chi agessssss ago.

Ryan had a lot of fun (I believe) as he was very busy with Malaika and Malaika’s toys. Really made himself feel at home. :D Sorry Malaika’s Mummy.. you have to clear up the mess after we left.

Picture says a thousand words. More so I have picturessss to share…

Ryan spotted a cutey baby and couldn’t resist exchanging gesture with his newfound friend

Ryan was unsually ‘yit cheng’ (friendly) with Malaika. He was like magnetised to her. Crawled to her wanted to kiss her. Gosh.. I must have thought him too much of ‘kiss-kiss’ *slap head*

Ryan: “No-No.. I am the boss here now” :D

Love the pic below. How lovey dovey.. :D

Naughty Ryan marking his territory, shoving Malaika’s hand from her favourite toy (the EXPENSIVE acquarium)

Ryan ransacking the CDs rack for Malaika’s appetite

Kai-Ma Elaine and Ryan

Malaika’s Mummy and the mischievous Ryan

Ps: I realised I do not have any pics of myself and Ryan. Too busy taking pics. Kekeke.. we had soooooo much fun.

Cleaning Ryan’s Teeth

@ 10 months 6 days

I finally found a solution to cleaning Ryan’s teeth without having to risk my finger being bitten off by the lil monster (heehee.. yeah.. a bit exaggerated using the word ‘bitten off’ but it’s really a pain we all wanna avoid).

Anyways, this is it.. trainer toothbrush set from Pigeon. Ryan has 8 teeth now (and showing signs of teething again now..aiks..the 9th one??) but I’ve started him on the 1st stage brush anyhow though it is actually meant for baby with 2-3 milk teeth. I’ll start the stage 2 once he familiarise with the brush in his mouth.

Ryan has been very cooperative. He somehow willingly opens his mouth for me to clean his teeth and tongue when I say ‘Aahh’ and put the brush near his mouth(hmm.. probably thought it’s drumstick this time :P ). No biting resistance too which is of course a great relief. Anyways, even if he bites also I won’t feel the pain no more. Yoohoo… The brush also comes with a protection shield that prevents choking hazard which is very helpful if you have a hyper and unpredictable baby like Ryan. Worth a try la… :D

Spending Quality Time with Ryan

@ 10 months 5 days

The long CNY break has given me the opportunity to spend more quality time with Ryan (auntie holiday :P ). One thing for sure, when he’s at home his sleeping habit is more predictable and healthier ie he will take fewer and longer naps. Over the last few days, Ryan will wake up at 7.45am, naps at 10.30am till 12.30pm and only naps again around 4pm for another 2 hours. So he will miss his evening nap and sleep early before 10.30pm. Of course there are consequences to his early bed time. For the last few nights, Ryan actually woke up at 5am demanding our attention and play time. *slap head* His ‘play’ time will last between half hour to one hour then he’ll be back to Zzzz-land. Arrgh.. since I’m on leave, it’s still managable…….must train him to sleep for longer hours. Sigh…

Ryan with stoned face just woke up from his nap :D

Some changes (development) of Ryan I’ve discovered over the last few days:

Ryan uses his index finger a lot these few days. When I take out his bolster to count the cartoon prints, he will use his finger and do the pointing while I do the counting 1,2,3…….10. Heehee.. I actually used this trick to hypnotise him to sleep. LOL.. bad mummy. Back to his index finger. Basically Ryan uses his index finger to point to anything anytime. This evening he actually pointed to the moon (yeah.. was around 7.30pm only but already witness the early half moon) and mumbled “Moo Moo Moo” (err.. I think the moo moo moo sound has no relation to the moon.. I don’t remember teaching him the word Moon).

Think Ryan was imitating how mummy pour the oil on the finger before applying on his tummy

Trying to close back the cap using his thumb and index finger (can see the right finger?? .. heeehee)

Ryan is able to stack the star rings all by himself now. No more hand holding required. See, Ryan is very stubborn. He doesn’t like it when we guide his hands to stack (or should I say slide down) the star rings so all these while he was more like randomly throwing, banging the stars to the wall what not. Suddenly today out of the blue he became an expert in sliding them down the pole. If he cant stack it using one hand, he’ll use both his hands.

Ryan’s patience with his car seat is slowly diminishing. Lately he will start to demand us (most of the time mummy cos I’m usually the one besides him) to carry after a mere 10 mins drive. 10 mins literally got us nowhere near our destination. If we (I) don’t succumb to his demand, he will start his wailing episode; wail wail wail as if he was suffering from some chronic abuse. I find that totally heartbreaking seeing my usual happy pie wailed in such pitiful manner. To stop him from crying I would always have to distract him with milk or water. Very very sum toong (heartbreaking).

Hmm.. see his hand?
You think he knew mummy was in state of breaking down also seeing him cry as such.. ??

Milk Solution

I can’t remember how long has this been on going but over the last few days I came to appreciate the beauty of Ryan’s new found playzone. Yes, for some strange reason, Ryan has developed a liking of hiding (or rather attempt to squeez) himself into the small gap between our bed and the wall. Thankfully over the last few mornings it was this magic ‘gap’ that kept him entertained while mummy relieve herself from the craving of extra minutessssssss of Zzzz…

Milk time has been a breeze also. Ryan now willingly holds his own bottle. All I have to do is lay him on a raised pillow, put the hanky and pass him the milk bottle. He will slowly put the teat into his mouth and voila. I just have stay close and continue keeping an argus eye while he drinks his milk happily and fuss free-ly…. Phew~~~*wink wink*

Ryan half asleep here with one hand on bottle, the other on his beloved sleepmate

My Customised Favicon

This is NOT a sponsored post

As said this is NOT a sponsored post. I came across this by chance. So, good things must share with my newfound friends here right…

Noticed the small little icon on my link (next to www.baby-ryanlim.blogspot.com) on the address bar above? Heehee.. now you can customise and have your own favicon instead of the typical B (Blogger’s favicon) Erm.. how many of you actually knew it’s call favicon pronounced as “fay-eye-con” ? I seriously just found out. *slap head*

I had some probs uploading the icon initially only to be advised by the prompt support that I should clear my cache. So voila… click on the icon on the bottom right (I have decided to give them a free link) or http://www.myfavatar.com/ . Register online and follow the cimple instructions. You’re just a few steps away from having your customised favicon.

Have fun ….

Yoohoo.. Gong Hei Fatt Choy

@ 10 months 2 days

As like previous years, 1st day of CNY we will gather at hubs uncle’s shop in Ipohroad for a ‘tuen nin’ vegetarian breakfast. Today is no exception.

Everyone were very excited to see Ryan. Everyone wanted to get a share of him.. which is perfectly understandable being the only baby around. Who could resist such a cutey baby (ahem… CNY must praise praise a bit).

I seriously need a better camera to take better pictures. I took a lot of pics but only a few came out ‘kin tak yan’ (not blurry). I’m so so so disappointed with this cam (Ixus50. Ban Ban Ban Canon)
Mummy and Kulingchingkwai

Daddy and Kulingchingkwai (see the identical smile)

Mama, Cutey having his regular charge and Pak Pak (grumpy face.. kekeke.. must be because Ryan refused to let him carry)

10 Months Milestones

@ 10 Months

Ryan has 8 teeth, 79cm and 9.8kg (last measured and weighted 2 weeks ago)

Emotions & Character
* Ryan is quite stubborn. He doesn’t like it when we try to hold his hand to guide him the correct way of doing whatever he was doing. Example, I will usually hold Ryan’s hand during shape matching or stack the stars stars games. But our lil kulingchingkwai always pushes my hand away and wanted to do it himself (of course most of the time wrong)
* Ryan can be a super ignorant snob. When he refused to look at you, he can see through you and look at some other things or objects without a blink. It’s like as if we were totally invisible. I totally do not understand how he does that so perfectly. Chinese say ‘tong lei mo to’
* Ryan doesn’t talk to himself anymore when he wants to sleep. But he still rubs his eyes though.
* I like to believe Ryan is always a happy baby. On rare oaccassions when he shows his grumpy face it is always not for long. Once we tickle him, he’ll be back with his beaming (sometimes big, sometimes cheeky) smile.
* Sleep pattern. The lullabies don’t worked anymore too. Nowadays I just put Ryan on bed, and he’ll continue to toss and turn on bed until he is tired. When he finally wind down, I’ll pat pat him to sleep while pointing to some drawings and count 1,2, 3….
* Ryan has a habit of clearing his throat just before the milk bottle goes into his mouth. It’ll go like this.. I’ll lay Ryan on a raised pillow, put hanky, and he’ll then ‘Oek” (puke sound) once just right before the teat goes into his mouth.

Language & Speech
* Ryan’s vocal improves a lot. He can do this sound, MaMa, MumMum, YaYa, Oooo, Ba Ba
* Ryan can also roar like a lion – yes.. he’ll go “rooarrr” “roooarrr”
* I do not know where Ryan picked this up (hopefully not me :P )lately he likes to mumble ‘pst.. pst…” too
* When I read out the animals, stories for Ryan, he’ll smile and “OoOo OoOooo”

Dexterity
* Ryan can stand up from sitting position in lightning speed. Sometimes he can stand up without any support. That really scares me
* Ryan has no patience and super daring. I observed he’ll do things (actions) without thinking of the consequences. Why?
- Ryan can climb up stairs pretty fast and half way up he will attempt to climb down, then climb up again, then down..then up, down… see tiring or not.
- Ryan also mastered a faster way of getting down the stairs. Instead of following the method I teach him (leg down first), he’ll sit on the stairs, face up and use his butt to slide down the stairs *slap head* I always have to make sure my hand grip never left his body for fearing our lil monster might just slap us with other unpredictable surprises
* Ryan can also take a few wobbly steps without support. Again, each time he does that I have to make sure he’s no further than my arm’s length
* Ryan is able to do the gongxi gongxi shake.. but he does that discriminately
* Ryan knows to raise his leg when I undress his pants

Interest
* Likes to scream, likes to bite for all sorts of reasons
* Likes to climb up our bed board and push all the things down
* Likes to go to the most prohibited places ; where the cables are, plugs, TV, players etc are located
* He will scream if we try to put him on his playpen
* The trick I use lately to keep Ryan still on car seat and stroller while I strap him up is to say this to him.. “Wahhhh look what’s that??” (point to a direction), “Waahhhhh see who is that” all the Wah Wah Wah to distract him. Phew.. so far it works well. Wait until he’s older I may have to use the worm tricks on his (learn from Mom2Ashley). Heehee..
* I developed a habit of counting 1- 10 (starting from a junction before reaching nanny’s place) when I send Ryan to nanny’s. Nowadays when I start the count, he will go ‘Ooo.. Ooo…’
* Voluntarily hold his bottle during feed

Diet
* Started feeding Ryan with raisin oats. He loves it. I still do not have definite feeding schedule. Now that Ryan is 10 months I hope to develop a proper timetable especially lunch and dinner, what to eat and what not…
* Doesn’t like sweet potato mixed milk. He went Oek Oek (puke sound) the last I fed him
* Likes potato carrot porridge
* His fav drink is prune + apple
* Using Avent Teat No 4

Routine
Weekday
* Wakes up around 7.45am (to auntie’s place)
* PIL will pick Ryan home around 6pm
* Mummy home by 8pm
* Daddy home by 10.30pm (very late lately)
* Sleep time at 11.30pm (bcos daddy wants to play with Ryan)

Weekend
* Wakes up around 7.45am
* About 1.5 to 2 hours nap at 10.00am
* Next nap at around 4.00pm (1 – 1.5 hours average)
* Next afternoon nap around 7pm (max 1 hour. Will wake him up at 8pm)
* Sleep time at 11pm
If Ryan misses the evening 7pm nap, he’ll go to bed around 9.30pm (very seldom though…)
