Eczema Baby

@ 9 months 5 days

Ryan started to have rashes on his face when he was just barely 2 months eventhough he was still on breastmilk. During then, my confinement lady suggested all sorts of ways to cure it .. all the traditional ways of course ranging from bathing Ryan with Guiness, disolve Panadol and apple it on his skin, use his ‘virgin’ urine to wipe the area, bla bla bla.. Being a new mummy who is against all these unproven traditional methods, I brushed them off. Gila meh (crazy), alcohol, urine yadda, yadda, yadda.. yeaksss!!!!
Despite my rejection to the suggestions, I was desperate to find a cure for my baby as the rashes has somehow gotten so bad that he kept rubbing his face with his mitten covered hands. It was a really pitiful sight. The recommendations by paed somehow were short termed too. Ryan’s rashes would be gone for a few days and back within the next. Some recommendations by paed:
  • Change milk from Enfalac to Enfalac HA – okay for a week or so then rashes were back
  • Change milk from Enfalac HA to Isomil – (on Isomil since..)
  • Daily use of Aqueoues cream (few times day to keep skin moisturised)
  • Daily use of Eucerin (abandoned already eversince we use the current brand)
  • Daily use of Oilatum Plus (few drops into bath water)
  • Prescribed hydro-cortisone (strictly only on severe rashes – very red and big patch)
Ryan continues to stay on Isomil until today but we have changed his daily skin care products to another brand after a visit to a skin specialist at Gleneagles when he suffered a rash outbreak on his face and joints. Ryan was then about 4 months (after a visit to poorly air conditioned warehouse sales) Yeah.. wanted to get a staircase gate for Ryan ma)
So ever since we’ve been using these.. Not bad. Touch wood. At least so far so good though occasionally he does develop rashes from food allergies.

Above are the products I use on Ryan during his Pom-Pom time: Johnson baby shampoo, Oilatum Plus (sometimes.. emollient wi anti bacterial function – just add one-two drops into bath water) and Cetaphil Cleanser (daily use).

Products I use after Pom-Pom. Drapolene for nappy rashes (I apply everytime I change him regardless with or without nappy rash), Efficort (it’s hydro cortison recommended by the skin specialist. Only apply when necessary. For me I only use this when the rashes causes distress to Ryan), Cetaphil Cream (this is slightly oilier, recommended for night use but I use it anyway during the day. There’s another Cetaphil day cream that Ryan uses. I leave that with auntie cos Ryan spends most of his day time at auntie’s place), next is the YueYi oil (use since 3 days old) to get rid of tummy wind and lastly the baby comb to comb his few strands of hair. :P (Ryan loves it when I comb his hair. Must be the tingling feel. He’ll give you the cheeky smile of his which gives you the impression he’s enjoying himself there. Heehee..)

Eversince we’ve been using the Cetaphil range, Ryan hasn’t had any rashes outbreak. So no complaint. (Touch wood touch wood) Whenever he has a bad patch on his face it’s always due to the food he consumed. Paed said most babies will outgrow this infantile eczema stage, I think Ryan has but I’ll still continue with his daily care routine. No harm done.

Hope the info above could help parents who are as troubled as me in relieving their babies’ eczema problem. Good luck.

Quick Fix to Dry Skin

@ 9 months 4 days

For the last two weeks or so I’ve developed this sudden dryness on my face. It got sooo bad that my skin starts to peel a little. I must say I was really desperate to get a quick fix and that’s partly because of a advertorial photo shoot job I got for a car fragrance product (Thanks Liz!!). So in a desperate bid, I literally drown myself with face moisturiser every night. One day no result, two days also no marked improvement. Tried moisturiser A, tried moisturiser B, ding ding dong dong more than a week passed, still ‘mo tit hei sek’ and I kinda give up until I found this…

Does it really work? Yes.. it works WONDER. No joke. After a night, I can see obvious improvement on my skin. Today I went for the shoot with smooth skin lor.. Just barely 48hours ago my skin was like peeling sandpaper. Not anymore..(wink wink)

So this morning happy happy jolly jolly went for my shoot. Thanks Daddy for looking after Ryan. The pic below was taken not long after I stepped foot into the room. Ryan was happily playing in his playpen.

Can see my poor baby is still wearing his pyjamas at 1pm when mummy got home. Sigh..

Where’s Daddy?? Where’s Daddy?

Here lor…. reading his newspaper.
