9 Months Milestones
@ 9 months
Life with Ryan just keeps getting to be more exciting, more amazing and a lot more fun (not that it was ever boring la). Today Ryan is 9 months old. He’s about 9.8kg and ?cm height (must check) and has got 8 teeth (4 top, 4 bottom). I’ll dedicate this post to sum up my assessment on cutie little Ryan’s development. I love our little man so much.
Emotions & Character
* Ryan is good at expressing his dissatisfaction. When we refused to give in to his request, he will scream his lungs out
* Besides rubbing eyes, Ryan baby talks to himself when he’s sleepy. He will go Ooh Ooh Ooh, Aah Aah Aah, it goes on and on. Then mummy will lay him down on bed and start singing lullaby to him signaling bed time
* Just lately he started to show dislikes of his stroller (in other words dislike immobility). When he refused sit on his stroller, he will straighten his leg and body so you have no way to slide his leg down. And if we finally managed to place him down, he will twist and turn so you have so much tough time strapping him up and when you think it’s all over after strapping him, he will twist to his side and attempt to climb out
* He always wake up with a smile. Even during the weekdays when mummy has to interrupt his sleep in the morning
* Ryan is able to acknowledge bed time when mummy switch off the lights and sing him lullabies. I tried a few times. Before he starts rubbing his eyes, I created the sleep environment (by doing the usual routine) and voila he will calm down, hug his sleep mate, squint his eyes a few times and ZzzZZzz….
Language & Speech
* When I switch on Baby Einstein (A Day On the Farm) he will babble Mu Mu Mu…. especially when he sees the cow. I have no idea why.
* Ryan is able to understand basic command like Yes, No, MumMum (eat), Kai-Kai (outing), Milk, Baby, TV, Daddy, Mummy, YehYeh, MaMa. When we say those words, he will turn to the exact direction where the thing/person is
* Ryan will raise his hand and will hit the light button when we say “Switch on/off the lights)
* When we say ‘Sayang’ mummy/daddy whoever, he will stroke his/her face slowly and then giggles
* Ryan vocab has expanded, Ooh Ooh, GaaGaa, MuuMuu and he can be very long winded Eg. He’ll MooooooooMoooooooooooooooooooooooooo (but he still doesn’t call out Mum-Mum/Ma Ma/ Da Da leh.. Anything wrong??)
Dexterity
* Ryan can stand without support momentarily (like a few secs)
* He can climb 3 steps up the stairs (somehow he only does that at auntie’s place)
* He can prop up to standing position by just leaning his back against the wall
* Can wave hi/bye (selectively)
* He will come close to us and kiss us on our face (I do not know what prompted Ryan to do that but he does it when we least expect it)
* Can hold his own bottle (both and single handedly)
* Ryan is very good at using body language. When he dislikes something or when he likes something he will use his body to communicate. Example, when being carried, Ryan will turn his body to the direction he wants to go. When he doesn’t like a toy, he will hit the toy or throw it away and when he likes you, he will sayang (stroke) you on your hair/face
* Ryan likes to throw his toys to the side of his car seat. When we pick him up, he’ll throw it again. We cover the gap with cushion, he’ll find the tiny little space/gap that is not covered and throw the toy there and if he can’t find the ‘loophole’, he’ll switch hand and throw it to the other side. AAhh…
* Ryan knows how to raise his leg when I undress his pants
Interest
* Ryan likes his story books (besides the fact they are one of his teething victims). He is very happy when I read him stories and point the words and pictures to him (Over time I hope I can build his span of interest longer)
* Likes to scream for attention
* He likes to watch Baby Einstein (esp. A Day on the Farm). He dislike Discovering Water the most. Boring kua for Ryan…
* A preference for YehYeh, the MaMa then Daddy.. mummy is the bad guy. When he sees YehYeh, he will out-stretch his arms wanted to be carried and YehYeh always fulfil this little monster’s wish
* I also noticed that when Ryan is attempting to do something which he is not supposed to, he will turn his direction to mummy, look me in the eyes just before he does whatever prohibited thing he has in mind and if I say NO-NO, he will smile… but will still do it. Aiks!!
* When I place Ryan on the bed (play time), I will use myself as barrier by sitting near the edge so he won’t fall out or attempt to take the things (remote and what not) besides the bed. I noticed when it was me, he will not make any fruitless attempts to cross this human barrier. However if it was Daddy or when I get up, he will lung himself forward in lightning speed. See la, how afraid this Ryan is of his mummy.
* His favourite lullaby is now Little Indians. Occasionally Ryan will fuss a little during bed time (tossing and turning on bed), I will then pull him up from bed and carry him for a moment. I will then sing Little Indians (whisper the word ‘Indian’ to his ears, yes.. just the word Indian) and after a while he will calm down and will slowly rest his head on my shoulder. When he does that, I will lay him on bed and continue to sing and pat him to sleep.
* Likes to ‘sek mai yat fun’ – eat along when we have dinners outside. I will bring along baby biscuits so he can have his snack while we eat our din din
* When we say go Kai-Kai, his face will instantly brighten up. I usually get into the car last and when he sees everyone else is in the car, his body will turn towards the car direction
* Lately he likes to squint his eyes and smile. No idea why he does that.
* Ryan is now able to understand the logics behind peek a boo. When I hide a toy under the blanket, he will remember the toy and will look for it by uncovering the blanket
*Likes to roar – yeah.. like a lion. Ryan does that occasionally when he was frustrated
* Prefers to be in a cold room. He’ll twist and turn on bed in the middle of the night if the air con is not cold enough for him. I lost count how many times I have to adjust the aircon for the two kings in the house. King1 complain too cold, King2 prefers it colder. Mummy stucked in between. Adoi~~
Diet
* About 7 oz of milk in the morning
* Cereal (rice cereal mix with baby food) for breakfast
* Milk in the afternoon
* Juices in the afternoon (he loves apple juice)
* Steamed porridge in the evening (broccoli, carrot, chicken blend – yummy)
* Milk before sleep
Ps: Ryan has allergic on chicken meat and pork. He will get rashes on his cheeks and beside his mouth after the meal (like sandpaper). Sei for lor.. Hope he’ll get over it. Will try again later…
